In-demand Euro 2024 star ‘only wants Barcelona’

Dani Olmo wants to sign for Barcelona this summer despite interest in the RB Leipzig midfielder from other top clubs.

Olmo is in demand after starring for Spain at this summer’s European Championship, where the 26-year-old was the joint-leading scorer to earn a share of the Euro 2024 Golden Boot.

Leipzig are prepared to allow Olmo to leave for a fee of €60m (£51m) this summer with interest from Barcelona and the Premier League. England’s ‘Big Six’ have been heavily linked with signing the Spaniard, but face disappointment as Olmo pushes for a move to Barcelona.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Olmo believes Barcelona is the ‘perfect project’ for the next step of his career and is awaiting the outcome of negotiations between the Catalans and Leipzig.

Olmo came through the academy ranks at Barcelona before making the surprise decision to leave for Dinamo Zagreb at the age of 16. He joined Leipzig in 2019 and has twice won the DFB-Pokal with the German side. Olmo also scored a hat-trick as Leipzig beat Bayern Munich 3-0 in the German Super Cup last season.

Barcelona are prepared to meet the asking price for the midfielder as the La Liga giants look to land Olmo and Spain teammate Nico Williams this summer. The two were among the most eye-catching performers from Spain’s success at Euro 2024 and viewed as ideal additions to Hansi Flick’s squad.
