Slot insists there is more to come from Liverpool star impressing in pre-season

Arne Slot believes there is more to come from Harvey Elliott at Liverpool as the midfielder continues to impress in pre-season.

Elliott assisted both goals as Liverpool continued their pre-season campaign with a 2-1 win over Arsenal in the United States, setting up Mohamed Salah and Fabio Carvalho as the Reds made it back-to-back wins on tour.

The 21-year-old has featured in advanced areas of the pitch during pre-season so far, with Slot keen to utilise Elliott’s creativity.

Elliott made just 11 league starts last season, as former manager Jurgen Klopp largely used the midfielder as an impact option, and the England u-21 international will hope for a more prominent role under Slot this season.

The Dutchman discussed Elliott’s performance following the win over Arsenal and outlined his belief that there is more to come.

“He had two great assists, but what I believe is that the team created these assists for him as well. Playing out from the back, getting him in the right positions – or another No.10,” Slot said at his post-match press conference.

“Then it is up to him to bring the most of these situations and he did that today with two assists. If I am a bit hard on him, I think there were two or three other situations where he could have done better. But that’s what the team is doing for him; we make sure he and the other ones like Mo and like Fabio come in the right positions where they can show their quality. Harvey did that today with two good assists.”
