Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has said Marcus Rashford has a point to prove this season.
Rashford struggled to reach his best level in 2023-24 and ended the campaign with just seven goals in the Premier League.
His performances saw the 26-year-old excluded from the England squad for Euro 2024, with Gareth Southgate opting against selecting the 60-cap forward following a loss of form.
Rashford’s disappointing campaign came after a spectacular 2022-23, in which he became the first Manchester United player in a decade to score 30 goals in all competitions in a single season.
Speaking to The Guardian ahead of Manchester United’s pre-season fixture with Liverpool this weekend, Ten Hag said Rashford has to ‘prove his point’ this season.
“Of course, but he has to prove his point,” the Dutchman said.
“We will set the conditions [give him all support] and [then] he is very capable of doing this. The season before he scored 30 goals, so when he is in the right vibe, then he has such a high potential. And when he is really in that mood, he [can] again score 30 or even more goals.
βHe should fight to be (at his best level), but we are not robots. We are dealing with human beings. And everyone β you [for example] are not always at your best.β
