Arsenal considering shock raid on Premier League title rival

Arsenal are considering an ambitious move to sign Julian Alvarez from Premier League rivals Manchester City.

Alvarez has suggested he is open to leaving Manchester City this summer with the forward keen to earn a more prominent role.

The 24-year-old made 54 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring 19 goals, but often found himself in a deeper position to accommodate Erling Haaland at the Etihad.

Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain have been linked with the World Cup-winning Argentine, while Atletico Madrid have been named as frontrunners after the Spanish side saw a €40m move for Artem Dovbyk collapse.

However, the Daily Mirror have claimed Arsenal are on ‘red alert’ as the Gunners look to sign a striker before the transfer window closes.

Former City assistant Mikel Arteta returned to his old side to sign Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus in 2022, but Arsenal have since emerged as the closest challengers to Manchester City’s dominance of the division after back-to-back runners-up finishes.

Arsenal, however, are reportedly weighing up a bold move to sign Alvarez in their bid to overhaul the Citizens this season. Fabrizio Romano has revealed that City will demand a fee in excess of €50m for the forward.
