Chelsea still working on deal for Spanish striker

Chelsea remain in conversation with Atletico Madrid to discuss a potential deal for Samu Omorodion.

Chelsea had an offer turned down for Omorodion earlier in the transfer window but remain interested in a deal to sign the striker.

The 20-year-old has returned to Atletico after a productive season on loan at Alaves, where the forward scored eight goals in 34 La Liga appearances.

Atletico and Chelsea are currently in discussions over a deal that will see Conor Gallagher move to the Spanish capital and the transfer of Omorodion would be a separate exchange. Atleti have expressed a desire to keep the forward at the club but could consider offers in excess of €35m with Fabrizio Romano reporting that the Blues are preparing another bid.

Diego Simeone’s side have completed the €32m signing of Alexander Sorloth from Villarreal and retain an interest in Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez. The departure of Omorodion could bring in additional funds to pursue a deal for the latter, who is open to leaving the Premier League champions.

Omorodion is currently representing Spain at the 2024 Olympics in Paris and scored during the group stage clash with Egypt. Spain will face Morocco in the semi-finals this evening.
