Piero Hincapie could leave Bayer Leverkusen before the transfer deadline amid interest in the defender from top clubs.
Hincapie is understood to be open to a new challenge after three seasons at Leverkusen and is keen to secure a more regular role, after starting just 16 league games during the German champion’s Bundesliga title success in 2023-24.
Liverpool are long-term admirers of the 22-year-old, whose ease as a left-sided centre-back or full-back appeal to those at Anfield. Chelsea, Tottenham and Atletico Madrid have also been credited with interest in the Ecuadorian.
Arne Slot is yet to make a signing as Liverpool manager, though plans are in motion to bring Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi to the Premier League. A centre-back is likely to be next on the wish-list for the Dutchman after Joel Matip’s exit this summer.
Last season, Hincapie ranked in the top 10% of centre-backs in Europe’s top five leagues for progressive carries, progressive carrying distance, tackles won, touches and completed passes per game.
He featured at full-back as Ecuador took eventual champions Argentina to penalties during this summer’s Copa America quarter-finals.
Sky Germany are reporting that there have already been enquiries from unnamed top clubs, though no agreement has been reached. Leverkusen are understood to value the defender at around €50m (£43m).
