Chelsea’s deal to sign Samu Omorodion from Atletico Madrid has collapsed due to ‘major issues’.
Chelsea were on the verge of completing a deal to sign the Spain u-21 striker for a fee in the region of £34.5m, with a medical scheduled for the forward.
However, the deal is now ‘100% off’ according to The Athletic after Chelsea encountered issues in finalising the player’s seven-year contract.
Omorodion will now return to Madrid after winning a gold medal representing Spain at this summer’s Olympics and Fabrizio Romano has claimed the forward is a ‘serious chance’ to join another ‘big club’ in the coming days.
Omorodion spent last season on loan at La Liga rivals Alaves and impressed to score eight goals in 34 appearances.
Atletico had been reluctant to sanction his sale but the imminent arrival of Julian Alvarez from Manchester City and the signing of Alexander Sorloth from Villarreal have persuaded Diego Simeone’s side to sell the player.
It is understood that Atletico’s move to sign Conor Gallagher from Chelsea and the deal for Alvarez will not be impacted by the collapse of Omorodion’s move to Stamford Bridge.
