Newcastle return with improved transfer bid for in-demand Marc Guehi

Newcastle United have reportedly submitted another transfer bid for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi. 

The England international’s future has been the subject of intense speculation this past summer following an strong campaign in the Premier League and impressive displays at Euro 2024.

Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have all been linked with the centre-back this year year, while a return to former club Chelsea has also been suggested.

The Magpies, though, are the only club making direct overtures to sign Guehi, having made two offers to Palace for the player.

Newcastle’s first offer, which would have seen them pay an initial £48 million transfer fee, was rejected by the south London outfit.

This week they have returned with an increased bid of £55m, rising to £60m with add-ons, according to The Times.

Palace, who bought Guehi for £18m in 2021, value the defender at £70m. Chelsea are in line to receive 20 percent of the profit on the deal if he is sold.

With just two years left on the player’s contract, the Eagles may decide now is the time to capitalise on his transfer value. They have lined up potential replacements in the event that Guehi does leave the club to join Newcastle.



Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah has been linked with a move to Selhurst Park, while Wolfsburg’s Maxence Lacroix is also on their radar as he enters the final year of his contract.

Odilon Kossonou of Bayer Leverkusen has emerged as another possible replacement, but is said to be admired by several different Premier League clubs. Reports suggest he could be available for around €30m (£25.6m).
