Chelsea’s relentless recruitment drive in recent seasons has been a well-documented tale, with the big-spending Blues shattering records in recent windows.
Since the arrival of Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital as the club’s new owners in May 2022, Chelsea have twice broken the British transfer record for new signings, appointed four permanent head coaches, and surpassed £1.2bn spent on players.
One club who has benefited more than most from Chelsea’s desire to splash the cash is Brighton. The Seagulls have forged a reputation for buying low and selling high, unearthing rough diamonds and sending them on to wealthier clubs after a little polish.
Chelsea have regularly raided the south coast side for their top talent of late, with the likes of Moises Caicedo, Marc Cucurella and Robert Sanchez swapping the Amex Stadium for Stamford Bridge.
In addition, Chelsea provided Brighton with a sizeable compensation (£22m) for former head coach Graham Potter and his coaching staff, before returning to take head of player recruitment Paul Winstanley in another swoop on the Seagulls.
Football finance expert Kieran Maguire has recently revealed an extraordinary statistic, that Chelsea are responsible for 50% of the £480m Brighton have received from player and manager sales this century.
Brighton have had total player & manager sales this century of £480m.

For context, Brighton’s Amex Stadium, opened in 2011, and state-of-the-art training complex cost £113m to build, £2m less than the Blues spent on Moises Caicedo when making the Ecuadorian the Premier League’s record recruit.
