Four Premier League clubs ‘interested’ in Liverpool transfer

Several Premier League clubs are reportedly interested in signing Liverpool defender Joe Gomez before the transfer window closes.

The England international’s future is up in the air after he was left out of the matchday squad by new head coach Arne Slot for the Reds’ opening Premier League clash.

Jarell Quansah was named to line up alongside Virgil van Dijk in central defence against Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Saturday. Centre-back Ibrahim Konate was named on the bench.

Gomez is contemplating the next step of his career as he ‘explores his options’ with less than two weeks until transfer deadline day, according to The Times.

The report claims that Aston Villa, Chelsea, Fulham and Newcastle United could make a move for the 27-year-old, while there is also interest from clubs abroad. Bayern Munich have been mentioned as a possible destination following the departure of Matthijs de Ligt to Manchester United.

However, it is also said that there is ‘no guarantee’ Gomez leaves Liverpool by the end of the month. The player’s omission comes after ‘grown-up discussions’ with the club, who are ‘not forcing’ him out.

The former Charlton Athletic man, who has largely been used as a utility player across the backline and in midfield during his nine years at Liverpool, is ‘mulling over’ his future as he’s clearly fourth in the pecking order.

Gomez will ‘reintegrate’ into the first-team squad if a move does not transpire before window closes on Friday, 30 August.
