Brentford confirm ‘things happening’ for Toney transfer

Thomas Frank has confirmed that ‘things are happening’ regarding a potential transfer for Brentford forward Ivan Toney.

Toney has been left out of the Brentford squad to face Crystal Palace on Sunday amid continued speculation surrounding his future at the club.

Frank has now confirmed that developments are progressing behind the scenes with the 28-year-old expected to leave West London before the August 30 deadline.

Toney has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Brentford and the Bees have reluctantly accepted the England international will depart.

There is strong interest in the forward, who has scored 72 goals in 141 appearances for Brentford, from the Premier League and Saudi Pro League.

Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal are among the Premier League rivals who have been linked with signing Toney this summer. Manchester City could also enter the market for a forward after the sale of Julian Alvarez.

“A lot of things going on with Ivan [Toney], especially with transfers, there’s a lot of transfer interest. Because of all that, we’ve decided not to include him in the squad.

“I can’t give too much away the day before. Of course Ivan is a top player, we all know that. He has been fantastic for us for four years but we showed last season we can cope without him.”

Has he played his last match for Brentford?: “Who knows. There is interest, it’s not close.”
