Transfer imminent? Forward left out of Brentford clash

Ivan Toney has not been included in the Brentford squad for Sunday’s clash with Crystal Palace, amid speculation surrounding the forward’s future.

Toney has entered the final 12 months of his contract with the Bees and has been at the centre of transfer speculation throughout the summer window.

Several of the Premier League’s top teams have been linked with the England forward, though suitors including Manchester United, West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur have since signed alternatives. Arsenal and Chelsea have also been credited with interest and continue to assess the market for opportunities.

Fabrizio Romano has said Toney is ‘one to watch’ in the final 10 days of the transfer window, with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli ‘adding him to the shortlist’.

Toney also has ‘other opportunities’ according to Romano, with his exclusion from Brentford’s London derby with Palace suggesting a transfer could be imminent.

However, Brentford are short of options at centre-forward after summer signing Igor Thiago was ruled out until 2025 with a knee injury.

Toney has scored 36 goals in 83 top-flight appearances since Brentford’s promotion to the Premier League.
