Chelsea forward set to complete exit today

Chelsea forward Armando Broja is set to complete his move to Ipswich Town on Wednesday.

Ipswich have agreed a deal to sign Broja on a season-long loan deal, which will include a mandatory purchase option should Kieran McKenna’s team avoid relegation from the Premier League this season.

The overall package of the deal will be in excess of £30m should The Tractor Boys stay up, in the latest eye-catching arrival at Portman Road this summer.

Broja is free to leave Chelsea after struggling to cement himself in the club’s plans, with the 22-year-old having spent the second half of last season on loan at Fulham.

The Albania international failed to make an impact at Craven Cottage due to competition from Rodrigo Muniz and is now looking for a fresh chance to kickstart a career that has stalled of late.

Injuries have hampered Broja’s development in recent seasons after the forward impressed during loan spells at Vitesse Arnhem and Southampton earlier in his career.

He scored six league goals for the latter during the 2021/22 Premier League season and will hope regular football at Ipswich can see him return to his best. Fabrizio Romano is reporting that the transfer is due to be completed on Wednesday.

The Slough-born striker has scored five times in 23 appearances for Albania at international level and adds to Ipswich’s attacking options, following the signing of 2023/24 Championship Golden Boot winner Sammie Szmodics last week.
