Chelsea have continued their fire sale of talent with the departure of defender Bashir Humphreys.
The academy graduate has signed on loan for Championship leaders Burnley, with an obligation to make the move permanent for a fee that could rise to £14.7m with add-ons.
The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at Swansea City in the second tier, where he made 26 appearances in all competitions. Humphreys has won three caps for England at u-21 level and formed part of the u-19 side that won the European Championship in 2022.
He continues an exodus in West London as Chelsea look to cut down an overpopulated squad. Conor Gallagher completed his €42m move to Atletico Madrid on Wednesday, while Armando Broja’s exit to Ipswich Town is also expected to be announced imminently.
Humphreys is the 15th player to leave Chelsea this summer on a loan, permanent transfer or end of contract.
He joins a Burnley side who have made a flying start to their Championship campaign under new head coach Scott Parker, with maximum points from two games and nine goals scored.
