West Ham United are not interested in selling Edson Alvarez this summer despite enquiries into the midfielder’s availability.
Alvarez impressed during his debut season in the Premier League after arriving from Ajax for a fee of around £35m last summer.
The Mexico international has been linked with a potential move to Manchester United, where he would reunite with ex-Ajax boss Erik ten Hag.
However, the Red Devils are pushing for a deal to sign Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain to fill their defensive midfield needs. Other top clubs have monitored his performances at the London Stadium but are set to face rejection in attempts to sign Alvarez.
Sky Germany are reporting that West Ham view the 26-year-old as a crucial part of their project under new head coach Julen Lopetegui and would only consider ‘exceptional offers’. Despite the arrival of fellow anchor Guido Rodriguez from Real Betis, West Ham want to keep Alvarez as part of their midfield group.
Alvarez missed the club’s opening fixture of the Premier League season as he recovers from a hamstring injury picked up at this summer’s Copa America. However, the midfielder is closing in on a first-team return and could be passed fit to face Crystal Palace in the Premier League this weekend.
