Bournemouth working on deal for out-of-favour goalkeeper

Bournemouth are ‘working on deal’ to sign Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan from Chelsea.

Andoni Iraola wants to bring in a new number one before the deadline and Arrizabalaga is an option for the Cherries, after being deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.

The Spanish shot-stopper spent last season on loan at Real Madrid, where he made 20 appearances in all competitions and won La Liga and the Champions League.

He joined Chelsea in a £71.6m deal in 2018 and has made 163 appearances for the Blues in all competitions. That fee remains a world-record for a goalkeeper, though Arrizabalaga has struggled to live up to expectations in English football.

Arrizabalaga has no future at Chelsea and the West Londoners will listen to offers as the club desperately seek to trim down an overpopulated squad. The Athletic are reporting that Bournemouth have opened conversations over a loan deal with Arrizabalaga their top target.

Bournemouth have also shortlisted the club’s former goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale as an option with the England international looking to leave Arsenal. Southampton and Wolves are also targeting the 26-year-old, who lost his place as first-choice at the Emirates to David Raya last season.
