Arteta admits Jesus injury could force Arsenal into transfer market

Mikel Arteta says that Arsenal could to look to sign another player in the transfer window as Gabriel Jesus’ injury has left their squad looking “a little bit short”.

The Brazilian forward didn’t travel with the squad to Villa Park for Saturday’s 2-0 win over Unai Emery’s Aston Villa after picking up a groin injury this week.

Eddie Nketiah was an unused substitute, but could leave the club before deadline day on 30 August. His exit would mean there would be no natural replacement at centre-forward for Kai Havertz.

The Gunners have previously been linked with Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen, although it seems unlikely they will spend the money required to sign either attacker. Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino is expected to join the club this week.
