Enzo Maresca wants more from Chelsea despite watching his side thrash Wolves 6-2 on Sunday.
Chelsea earned their first Premier League win under Maresca’s management at Molineux, with Noni Madueke scoring a second-half hat-trick.
An even first half saw the game tied at 2-2, as goals from Matheus Cunha and Jorgen Strand Larsen saw Wolves twice cancel out Chelsea efforts from Nicolas Jackson and Cole Palmer.
Chelsea improved after the break, however, with Madueke taking centre stage to score a hat-trick inside 14 minutes.
The 22-year-old was booed by the home crowd following an offensive social media post aimed at Wolverhampton, but responded with a match-winning performance for Chelsea.
Each of his three goals were assisted by Palmer, just the fifth time a Premier League player has assisted the same teammate three or more times in the same game. Joao Felix rounded off the scoring on his second debut for Chelsea.
“In the second half we changed something and it was better. I thought the intention in the first half was good but we lost four or five easy balls from set-pieces and counter attacks,” Chelsea boss Maresca said to BBC Match of the Day.
“The second half was completely different and we didn’t lose any balls and were in control of the game. The tactical plan in the second half was the same but we were a bit more accurate in the second half and didn’t give away any easy balls.
“That is the intention (to attack like that every week) but there are teams there that want the same so it’s not easy. In the first 10 minutes we created two or three chances and scored a goal and then we started to lose the ball, but overall a good performance. Absolutely there always things we can improve on. We can learn many things.”
On Madueke, who has been linked with an exit from Chelsea this summer, he added: “In the first 10 minutes he had two chances and overall he was very good. The only thing I didn’t like from Noni is the free-kick he gave away before half-time and we can avoid that. Especially against a team who are good from set-pieces.”
