Chelsea’s search to sign a centre-forward is set to go down to the wire as the Blues continue transfer talks.
Enzo Maresca has said Chelsea remain interested in signing a number nine who can ‘make a difference’ before the transfer window’s closure on Friday.
Victor Osimhen is the leading transfer target for Chelsea with negotiations ongoing with Napoli over a potential deal to sign the 25-year-old.
Discussions so far have failed to find a breakthrough with Osimhen not interested in a loan move. The Nigeria international is open to joining Chelsea, though only provided any deal includes a permanent clause.
Fabrizio Romano is reporting that direct talks between Chelsea and Osimhen’s camp will continue on Wednesday. Al-Ahli have submitted an official offer to the Napoli for the forward, though the player’s preference is the Premier League.
The bid from the Saudi side is understood to be in excess of €65m, while Osimhen will demand a significant salary and release clause to move to the Middle East.
Ivan Toney has also been mentioned as a potential option for both clubs. However, Chelsea will only move for the 28-year-old if a deal makes financial sense.
The England international has not been included in the Brentford squad for their opening two fixtures of the Premier League campaign, amid the ongoing speculation surrounding his future. Toney has entered the final season of his contract with the Bees and has expressed his desire to leave the club.
