Manchester United have no interest in signing Ben Chilwell from Chelsea before Friday’s transfer deadline.
Chilwell had been named as a potential makeweight in a deal that would see Chelsea sign Jadon Sancho from Manchester United.
The Blues are interested in signing Sancho as the club’s active summer of recruitment continues, with the 24-year-old having returned to Old Trafford from a loan spell at Borussia Dortmund in 2023/24.
United are open to his exit after a fallout with Erik ten Hag last season, while Sancho is understood to have supported Chelsea as a child.
At Chelsea, Chilwell has been deemed surplus to requirements after an injury-hit spell at Stamford Bridge, with Enzo Maresca having informed the player he does not feature in his plans.
Manchester United have been linked with adding a left-back to their squad with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia having suffered their own fitness issues. Shaw made just 12 appearances in the Premier League last season and is currently sidelined, while Malacia’s last appearance for the Red Devils came in May 2023.
However, Fabrizio Romano has said Erik ten Hag’s team have no interest in signing Chilwell and no talks are planned before this week’s deadline for deals. Raheem Sterling has been suggested as another option to move to Manchester in part-exchange, though United’s stance on a deal for the former Manchester City winger is unclear.
Sterling is also free to leave Chelsea with the 29-year-old’s number seven shirt having been allocated to new signing Pedro Neto.
