Federico Chiesa has revealed he said ‘yes immediately’ after being informed of Liverpool’s interest in signing him.
Chiesa has completed his move to Liverpool from Juventus for an initial fee in the region of £10.9m.
The Italy international has signed a four-year contract with the Reds and becomes the club’s second signing of the summer transfer window, with a deal also agreed for Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili to join in 2025.
Chiesa arrives after scoring 10 goals in 37 appearances for Juventus last season, as the Bianconeri secured Champions League qualification and won the Coppa Italia.
Chiesa delighted to secure Liverpool transfer
Speaking in his first interview as a Liverpool player, Chiesa said he had no hesitation in accepting the move.
“I’m so happy to be a Liverpool player,” he told the club’s official website.
“When Richard Hughes (Liverpool sporting director) called me and he said, ‘Do you want to join Liverpool?’ – and the coach called me – I said yes immediately because I know the history of this club, I know what it represents to the fans.
“So, I’m so happy and I can’t wait to get started.”
Chiesa formed part of the Italy side that won the European Championship in 2021 and was named in the Team of the Tournament.
A versatile forward, he bolsters Arne Slot’s attacking options with Liverpool having held a long-term interest in the Italian.
