‘Conversations going on’ – Manchester United chief hints at late transfer business

Manchester United sporting director Dan Ashworth has suggested there could be some late transfer business at the club.

The deadline for Premier League clubs is 11pm BST on Friday evening and teams are running out of time to conclude deals.

United have had a productive summer in the transfer market with Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui all arriving for a combined investment of around £136m, while an imminent announcement of Manuel Ugarte’s €60m (£50.4m) arrival from Paris Saint-Germain is expected.

The Red Devils continue to be linked with further additions and there have been suggestions that Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling could move to Old Trafford, as part of a potential swap deal involving Jadon Sancho.

Ashworth did not comment on specific rumours but revealed that ‘conversations are going on’ regarding further transfers at Manchester United before the deadline.

Manchester United ‘really happy’ with transfer business

“There are still a few hours to go, so who knows what will happen but so far we have been really happy with the business we have done in and out,” Ashworth told TNT Sports.

“We have a couple of conversations going on that’s all I can say.

“With the intensity of the Premier League and two domestic cup competitions [extra games] does add a little more to domestic teams but we’ll be well equipped, we’re pleased with the squad and we’re ready to go.”
