Kieran McKenna has confirmed that talks between Ipswich Town and Chelsea over a deal for Armando Broja have resumed.
Ipswich were closing in on the loan signing of the 22-year-old with a £30m obligation to make the move permanent earlier in the window, though the Tractor Boys’ move for Broja stalled.
The Albania international has an injury problem which has caused hesitancy for those at Ipswich. However, ahead of the 11pm transfer deadline for Premier League clubs on Friday evening, McKenna said talks with Chelsea are ongoing.
Ipswich resume Broja talks
“There’s been discussions with Armando, that’s not a secret. It’s not a secret that he’s got an injury issue. The clubs are ongoing with discussions, it has to be the right thing for all parties,” McKenna said at his pre-match press conference ahead of facing Fulham.
“It has to be the right thing for us – that he can come and have a positive impact at a point in the season. It has to be the right thing for Armando, as it’s a very important moment for his young career, and the right decision for Chelsea, so those parties are continuing to discuss.
“We will see what’s right and hopefully the best resolution will be found by this evening.”
Middlesbrough forward an alternative for Ipswich
According to the BBC, Middlesbrough striker Emmanuel Latte Lath is considered a possible alternative. However, the Championship club are reluctant to sell the Ivorian, who scored 18 goals in 36 appearances for Michael Carrick’s side last season.
