Manchester United: Confirmed Europa League draw and opponents

Manchester United have discovered their opponents for the Europa League’s new-look league phase following Friday’s draw.

Like the Champions League, UEFA have revamped the competition with an expanded 36-team format.

Each team will play eight games in the league phase against eight different opponents, with four home and four away. Results will be placed on a singular league table to determine who progresses to the knockout rounds.

Exact dates and kick-off times for these fixtures, as well as their order, will be confirmed on Saturday.

Manchester United face ‘Battle of Britain’ with Rangers

The pick of the home ties will see Manchester United take on Rangers in a ‘Battle of Britain’ clash at Old Trafford. The Scottish side have been regulars on this stage in recent campaigns and reached the 2022 final, alongside a run to the last-16 last season.

Erik ten Hag will also host his former side at the Theatre of Dreams. Dutch side FC Twente are among the visitors, in addition to Greece’s PAOK and Norwegian outfit Bodo/Glimt.

Familiar faces await at Fenerbahce

United have been handed a tricky trip to Turkey to face Fenerbahce in the league phase. Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho took charge of the Süper Lig outfit this summer.

Mourinho has twice won this competition previously, first with Porto (2003) before leading Manchester United to Europa League success in 2016.

Their squad contains former Red Devils’ midfielder Fred, ex-Manchester City forward Edin Dzeko and former Newcastle fan favourite Allan Saint-Maximin.

FC Porto also await in another challenging clash on the road, while there will be first-ever meetings with Czech side Viktoria Plzen and Romania’s FCSB.
