Man United signing one of the ‘best ball-winning midfield players in the world’

Manchester United sporting director, Dan Ashworth, has hailed Deadline Day signing Manuel Ugarte as one of ‘the very best ball-winning midfield players in the world’.

Ugarte completed his £51m transfer to the Premier League from Paris Saint-Germain on Deadline Day and reinforces Manchester United’s midfield options under Erik ten Hag.

The Uruguay international led Ligue 1 for tackles per game in 2023/24 and Ashworth believes the Red Devils have signed one of the most effective ball-winners in football.

Ugarte dubbed ‘one of the best ball-winners in the world’

“Signing Manuel was another of our primary targets for this summer. He is among the very best ball-winning midfield players in the world and has an excellent record at both club and international level,” Ashworth told the club’s official website.

“His qualities, experience and passion will be a great complement to our strong group of midfielders.

“Manuel is a player we’ve watched closely, and we are excited to see the positive impact he will make on the pitch and in the dressing room as we continue to strive for success.”
