Sterling hails Arsenal transfer as ‘perfect fit’

Raheem Sterling believes Arsenal is the ‘perfect fit’ for him after completing a deadline day loan move to the club from Chelsea.

Arsenal swooped late in the transfer window to sign the winger from their London neighbours, after Sterling was informed he does not feature in Chelsea’s plans for the current campaign.

The 29-year-old arrives on an initial loan deal and reunites with Mikel Arteta, having worked with the Spaniard at former club Manchester City.

Sterling said he cannot wait to get started at a title-contending Arsenal side and said the Gunners’ ‘togetherness’ is something he wants to be a part of.

“Joining Arsenal is really an unbelievable feeling. I’m buzzing,” Sterling said in comments published by Fabrizio Romano.

“This is a perfect fit for me! You see the journey the boys are on, and the hunger, and I keep saying again, the togetherness is something I’m looking to be part of.”

What will Sterling bring to Arsenal?

Sterling has won every available domestic honour in English football after a decorated career to date, including four Premier League titles during his time with the Citizens. He has scored 123 goals in 379 top-flight appearances.

In terms of individual honours, Sterling was named PFA Young Player of the Year and FWA Footballer of the Year after helping Manchester City to an unprecedented domestic treble during the 2018/19 campaign.

He adds depth to Arsenal’s forward line, where he will compete with Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli for a place in the side.

Arsenal are understood to have paid no loan fee for the 84-cap England international, while the Gunners will pay less than half of Sterling’s wages.
