Manchester United duo Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo, and Manchester City winger Savinho, have been nominated for the 2024 Kopa Trophy.
The Kopa Trophy is an award presented to the best performing player worldwide under the age of 21 during a joint ceremony with the Ballon d’Or.
Manchester United pair on Kopa Trophy shortlist
The final 10-player shortlist of nominees has been revealed with three Premier League players up for the award.
Mainoo has been nominated after a brilliant breakthrough season at Manchester United that saw the teenager rise from the academy into the England senior side within six months. Mainoo will be aiming to make it back-to-back successes for England after Jude Bellingham’s Kopa Trophy win in 2023.
He impressed as England reached the final of Euro 2024 in the summer. Club teammate Garnacho is also nominated after scoring 10 goals in 50 appearances across all competitions for Manchester United.
Both players scored in the 2-1 FA Cup final win over Manchester City at Wembley, while Garnacho lifted the Copa America with Argentina in the summer.
Savinho has also been selected on the shortlist, following his role in Girona’s top-three finish in La Liga last season. The Brazilian winger starred as the Spanish side secured Champions League qualification for the first time, before moving to Manchester City in a summer deal.
Lamine Yamal favourite for Kopa Trophy
Lamine Yamal headlines the nominees and is the favourite to take home the accolade. The 17-year-old starred as Spain won Euro 2024 in the summer, where he became the youngest player and goalscorer in European Championship history. He won the European Championship Young Player of the Tournament and Goal of the Tournament awards, having been named as La Liga’s best u-23 player in 2023/24.
Barcelona and Spain teammate Pau Cubarsi is also on the Kopa Trophy shortlist.
