Turkey an option for Chelsea player in ‘football wilderness’

Ben Chilwell could move to the Turkish Süper Lig on loan as the out-of-favour Chelsea defender looks to avoid a period in the ‘football wilderness’.

Chilwell has been informed that he does not feature in the plans of new head coach Enzo Maresca but failed to secure a transfer away from Chelsea before the Premier League transfer deadline.

Maresca has said Chilwell will not receive minutes in West London this season, leaving the 27-year-old short of options with the transfer window closed for Europe’s top five leagues. Several leagues remain open, however, including Turkey and the Saudi Pro League.

Chilwell was vice-captain at Chelsea last season but has struggled with injury problems in recent campaigns. He has started just 30 league games across the last three seasons.

The Telegraph are reporting that Chelsea are open to allowing Chilwell to go on loan to Turkey.

Chelsea’s Chilwell an option for Turkish clubs

Galatasaray recently capitalised on Victor Osimhen’s failure to secure a transfer before the deadline for Europe’s top five leagues with a short-term loan move for the Napoli forward and a similar arrangement could take Chilwell to the division.

Fenerbahce, who are under the management of ex-Chelsea and Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho this season, could be in the market for a left-back after the sale of Ferdi Kadioglu to Brighton.
