Erling Haaland is expected to sign a contract extension with Manchester City, though the new deal will contain a release clause.
Haaland has started the new season in blistering form with seven goals in three Premier League appearances, including back-to-back hat-tricks against Ipswich Town and West Ham.
The 24-year-old is targeting a third consecutive Premier League title and Golden Boot since moving to English football, having netted an extraordinary 97 goals in 102 appearances across all competitions for the Citizens.
Manchester City are keen to reward their talisman with a new deal, extending Haaland’s contract beyond 2027. The deal will see the Norwegian become the highest-paid player in the Premier League.
However, Spanish outlet Marca are reporting that the new contract will contain an ‘achievable release clause’.
Real Madrid are long-term admirers of the forward, though the signing of Haaland has lessened as a priority following the arrival of Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer in the summer.
However, the arrival of Haaland at the Bernabeu has not been ruled out, raising the prospect of the Norwegian and Mbappe working in partnership in the Spanish capital.
The player’s representatives have previously suggested the forward is open to conquering new challenges later in his career.
