Chelsea want to sign Lautaro Martinez from Inter Milan and are prepared to offer a trio of players as part of an exchange deal.
The West Londoners were frustrated in attempts to sign a centre-forward in the summer, with a deal for Samu Omorodion falling through and negotiations for Victor Osimhen failing to result in a deal.
The latter’s wage demands proved problematic for Chelsea, despite desire from all parties to get a deal done. Osimhen has instead signed on loan for Galatasaray after expressing his determination to leave Napoli.
According to El Nacional, Chelsea will turn their attention to another leading Serie A name and are targeting a deal for Lautaro Martinez.
The Argentine won the Capocannoniere as the league’s leading scorer in 2023/24, as Inter won the Scudetto under Simone Inzaghi. He followed that form with the Golden Boot during Argentina’s victorious 2024 Copa America campaign, including the extra-time final winner against Colombia.
Martinez is club captain at Inter Milan and last month signed a new contract committing his future to the Italian champions until 2029.
Despite that deal, Chelsea are preparing a huge players-plus-cash deal in a bid to tempt the Nerazzurri into a sale. Benoit Badiashile, Carney Chukwuemeka and Mykhailo Mudryk could all form part of the package, as the Blues look to offload unwanted talent and bring down Inter’s asking price.
Chelsea have a long-standing interest in the 27-year-old Martinez, who has scored 129 goals in 285 appearances for Inter.
