Viktor Gyokeres is set to be the subject of a transfer tug-of-war between Europe’s elite next summer as leading clubs circle for the Sporting Lisbon striker.
Gyokeres scored 43 goals and provided 15 assists in 50 appearances during a phenomenal first season in Portugal, following his €20m (£17m) arrival from Championship side Coventry City.
The Swedish striker won the Bola de Prata as the league’s leading scorer and the Primeira Liga Player of the Year award for his role in Sporting’s title success.
Despite those exploits, the player’s €100m (£83.2m) release clause prevented concrete interest from firming in the summer window. However, a return of nine goals in seven games to start the new season has increased interest ahead of the upcoming transfer windows.
Premier League quartet chasing Gyokeres
According to TEAMtalk, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are all monitoring his situation ahead of a potential move. The 26-year-old also has interest from Paris Saint-Germain, who failed to sign a striker last summer following Kylian Mbappe’s departure for Real Madrid.
Gyokeres has 37 goals in 38 league appearances since his move to the Estádio José Alvalade and has netted nine times in 22 appearances for Sweden at international level. Remarkably, last season was his first in a top-tier league in European football.
Earlier this month, Gyokeres reiterated his happiness in Lisbon but said he has ambitions to test himself at the highest level.
He told Sport Bladet: “I enjoy Sporting very much, so for me it was no problem to stay. But we’ll see what happens next window. Of course, you aim to test other leagues and a higher level, but I have no stress.”
