Arsenal host Bolton Wanderers in the third round as the Gunners begin their Carabao Cup campaign on Wednesday night.
Mikel Arteta’s team have a short turnaround from Sunday’s thrilling draw at Manchester City, where the North London side were a last-gasp equaliser away from three points, despite playing the entire second half with 10 men.
Arsenal remain unbeaten in all competitions this season but will be keen to return to winning ways after consecutive draws in Europe and the Premier League.
The Gunners are expected to rotate their side ahead of the visit of Bolton, the first encounter between the teams since the latter’s relegation from the Premier League in 2012. Now in the League One, Ian Evatt’s side have had a mixed start and sit 18th in the table after five games.
Arsenal vs Bolton – Predicted lineup and team news
Arsenal team news
Arsenal will be without Leandro Trossard for Tuesday’s tie after the winger’s red card during the draw at Manchester City last weekend. The Belgium international sits out a one-game ban, which applies to all domestic competitions. Trossard was dismissed for kicking the ball away, following on from Declan Rice’s red card for a similar incident against Brighton last month.
Arsenal have several injury concerns, with Riccardo Calafiori, David Raya and Jurrien Timber struggling during the closing stages of the City game. Meanwhile, Mikel Merino (shoulder), Martin Odegaard (ankle), Takehiro Tomiyasu (knee), Oleksandr Zinchenko (calf) and Kieran Tierney (hamstring) are confirmed absentees.
Raheem Sterling should make his first start, while Arteta could hand some of his emerging names a chance, including Ethan Nwaneri and Miles Lewis-Kelly. The academy products impressed during the club’s pre-season tour and recent cameo appearances.

“I’m very proud of them. They are dealing with a situation that probably they didn’t expect,” Arteta said on the duo’s recent involvement.
“They have had the chance to play in two of the most historic and difficult grounds in the Premier League and they both responded really well.”
