Chelsea vs Nottingham Forest – Predicted lineup and team news

Chelsea will be searching for a sixth straight in all competitions when the West Londoners welcome Nottingham Forest to Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

The Blues have found form under Enzo Maresca, who has made a positive start to his reign in the capital.

Chelsea beat Genk 4-2 in their Europa Conference League opener on Thursday evening, a result which followed a win over Brighton by the same scoreline last weekend.

The latter fixture saw Cole Palmer make history as the first player in Premier League history to score four goals before half-time in a game. Fourth in the Premier League as things stand, optimism is high that Chelsea can secure a top-four finish and Champions League qualification this season.

A win this weekend will move the Blues within two points of leaders Liverpool, but Nottingham Forest are set to pose a tough test. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have lost just one of their opening six games and claimed a win at Anfield earlier in the campaign, condemning the current leaders to their only loss of the season in all competitions.

Chelsea team news

Chelsea have an almost clean bill of health with Reece James (hamstring) and Omari Kellyman (thigh) the only absentees from Enzo Maresca’s squad. The out-of-favour Carney Chukwuemeka missed the win over Gent through illness but has been overlooked in the Premier League during the campaign to date.

Maresca faces a decision at centre-forward with Christopher Nkunku pushing for a place in the team. The Frenchman scored in Europe in midweek and is Chelsea’s leading scorer across all competitions with seven goals in 2024/25. However, Nkunku has started just once in the Premier League with Nicolas Jackson preferred. The latter has formed an encouraging understanding with Cole Palmer and is expected to get the nod against Forest.

Robert Sanchez is expected to retain his place in goal despite a shaky showing against Brighton last weekend. The Spaniard was at fault for both Brighton goals at Stamford Bridge in a disastrous display against his former side. Filip Jorgensen offers an alternative but is yet to make his league debut since arriving from Villarreal.

Jadon Sancho looks to have nailed down the left-wing role in Maresca’s team after a positive start to his loan spell from Manchester United. The 24-year-old has three assists in three Premier League appearances for the Blues.
