Manchester City will target a move for Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres if Erling Haaland leaves the club.
Gyokeres is on the radar of Europe’s top clubs after a prolific period in Portugal, where the Swedish striker has scored 54 goals in 60 appearances across all competitions for Sporting.
A €20m (£17m) signing from Championship side Coventry City, Gyokeres’ goal record has seen several leading sides consider activating his €100m (£83.7m) release clause at the Estádio José Alvalade.
According to Football365, Manchester City will target a move for the 26-year-old if the Citizens are forced to sell Haaland. The latter remains happy at the Etihad, though has been linked with a future move to Spain with the forward having been vocal in his interest to take on different challenges in his career.
Pep Guardiola’s potential exit at the end of the season could hasten an exit for Haaland, who has scored 101 goals in 108 games for City and this week became Norway’s record scorer, according to reports in Spain.
Gyokeres is a viable option for City as a replacement, with Sporting director Hugo Viana ‘very interested’ in making the striker his ‘first star signing’ in English football. Viana is the frontrunner to replace the outgoing Txiki Begiristain at Manchester City.
The Premier League champions will face considerable competition for his services. Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool have all been linked with the forward, who claimed the Bola de Prata as Portugal’s leading scorer and Primeira Liga Player of the Season award in 2023/24.
