Montella named as potential replacement for Erik ten Hag at Manchester United

Former Italy striker and current Turkey manager Vincenzo Montella has been named as a potential replacement for Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.

Ten Hag’s future is up in the air after a poor start to the season at Manchester United, who sit 14th in the Premier League table as the league returns from October’s international break.

Their eight points from seven games is the club’s worst start in the Premier League era and worst to any season since 1989/90.

New co-owners Ineso handed Ten Hag a contract extension in the summer but will be monitoring the side’s performances closely after a spend in excess of £200m in the summer.

With Gareth Southgate and Thomas Tuchel among the names to have ruled themselves out of the running to take over at Old Trafford, Montella has been named as a surprise option.

Turkish outlet Ajansspor have claimed the 50-year-old is in the frame, having led Turkey to the quarter-finals of Euro 2024 in the summer.

Previously, the ex-Roma and Fulham striker has coached Fiorentina, AC Milan, Sevilla and Adana Demirspor among his past clubs.
