Reece James back as Chelsea name team to face Liverpool

Chelsea have named their team to face Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday with Reece James making his first appearance of the campaign at Anfield.

The Chelsea captain returns to the side at right-back, having missed the opening weeks of the season with a hamstring injury.

Tosin Adarabioyo starts at centre-back in place of the suspended Wesley Fofana, while Malo Gusto looks set to deputise at left-back in Marc Cucurella’s absence. Fofana and Cucurella each picked up their fifth bookings of the season against Nottingham Forest before the international break.

Enzo Fernandez drops to the bench with Romeo Lavia alongside Moises Caicedo in midfield. Chelsea memorably beat Liverpool to the signings of both Lavia and Caicedo in the 2023 summer transfer window.

Noni Madueke, Cole Palmer and Jadon Sancho will operate in advanced roles behind Nicolas Jackson. Mykhailo Mudryk has not been included in the matchday squad, increasing the speculation surrounding his long-term future at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are aiming for a fourth consecutive away win in the Premier League and first win over Liverpool since March 2021.
