Ange Postecoglou has said the Tottenham supporters are right to be ‘unhappy’ after his side’s 1-0 loss at Crystal Palace.
Spurs saw their impressive run of form ended at Selhurst Park as Jean-Philippe Mateta’s strike clinched Crystal Palace’s first Premier League win of the season.
The Frenchman’s goal came after Micky van de Ven lost possession deep inside his own half, the lowlight of a poor performance from Postecoglou’s side.
The North Londoners were targeting an eighth win in nine games across all competitions but looked below their usual best against the Eagles. James Maddison forced a good save from Dean Henderson, while Richarlison failed to connect with Pedro Porro’s inviting cross in another wasted opportunity.
Defeat is the fourth loss Spurs have suffered in nine Premier League games this season and leaves Postecoglou’s side eighth in the table. The Australian said the supporters are right to be frustrated with a below-par performance from his team.
“It was one of those games with a lot of stoppages and battles and they ended up winning a lot of them and coming out on top. There was a lot of disruption and it was hard to get any fluency. They did better than us,” Postecoglou said speaking to BBC Match of the Day.
“It turned into a game they were thriving on and we should have dealt with it better. It was a poor goal to concede, it had nothing to do with playing out from the back. That can happen.
“I’d be very surprised if they were happy right now. Why would I be happy? If I’m unhappy then they’ll be unhappy. If you’re suggesting that our fans weren’t happy with today then that’s a fair assessment.”
