Barcelona sporting director Deco has said the club are not ‘working on’ the signing of a striker despite links to Erling Haaland and Viktor Gyokeres.
The Spanish side continue to be linked with signing a centre-forward in the upcoming transfer windows, with Robert Lewandowski having turned 36 in August. Lewandowski has remained a prolific presence for Barcelona, however, and leads La Liga for goals this season (14).
Deco has said Barcelona remain ‘so happy’ with the performances of the Poland international and has said the club are not currently assessing the striker market.
Gyokeres has been named as a potential target for the Catalans, following his explosive output at Sporting Lisbon.
The Swedish striker has scored 66 goals in 68 games for the Portuguese side and is attracting interest from Europe’s top clubs, including Arsenal and Manchester United.
Deco praised the performances of the 26-year-old at the Estádio José Alvalade but said he is not currently a target.
“He’s a good striker who scores a lot of goals, but we’re not working on that,” Deco told Mundo Deportivo.
“We have Lewandowski, we’re so happy with him and we’re not going to discuss any striker now.”
Haaland’s name also continues to be linked with the Camp Nou. The Norwegian is understood to be open to a future move to Spanish football and has a release clause in his contract at Manchester City.
“First of all, we should check if Haaland is what we need for our project,” Deco said on the back-to-back Premier League Golden Boot winner.
“We’re not working on strikers as of now as we’ve Lewandowski. We will see at the right moment.”
