Viktor Gyokeres has ruled out leaving Sporting Lisbon in the January transfer window.
Gyokeres has emerged as arguably Europe’s most in-demand forward following a prolific period in Portuguese football. The 26-year-old has scored 66 goals in 68 appearances for Sporting since joining from Coventry City in 2023.
After winning the Primeira Liga’s Player of the Year award after firing Sporting to title success last season, Gyokeres has started the new season in similar form.
He has 23 goals in 18 games in all competitions and is the joint-leading scorer in the Champions League (5) after a hat-trick against Manchester City on matchday four.
Gyokeres has continued his sublime form during the international break, scoring one and creating another in Sweden’s 2-1 Nations League win over Slovakia on Saturday.
Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United Bayern Munich and Barcelona are among the clubs chasing a deal for the forward, who has a release clause of €100m in his contract at the Estádio José Alvalade. However, Sporting are reportedly prepared to allow the talisman to leave for a figure in the region of €60m to €70m at the end of the season.
Discussing his future and reported interest from Europe’s elite, Gyokeres outlined his happiness with the Portuguese champions. He said he is keen to finish the current campaign in Lisbon before a decision is made on his future. When pressed on a potential new club, he said the guarantee of football will be ‘crucial’ to his decision.
“I want to finish this season at Sporting. I love it here,” Gyokeres said, as per Fabrizio Romano.
“New club? We will see when the time comes. I want to play, that’s crucial… and there will be also other factors.”
