Manchester City injury boost as quartet return to training

Manchester City have been handed an injury boost with Kevin De Bruyne, John Stones, Jack Grealish and Manuel Akanji all back in training.

Pep Guardiola’s options have been boosted during the international break as the Citizens look to snap an unprecedented run of poor form.

City lost four consecutive games in all competitions before the break, the first time the club have done so since 2005/06. It’s also the first time Guardiola has lost four in a row in his managerial career.

The Premier League champions return to action with a tough test this weekend. Tottenham Hotspur visit the Etihad, having eliminated City from the Carabao Cup in North London in October.

City are edging closer towards full strength, however, with De Bruyne, Grealish, Stones and Akanji all in contention to feature.

Grealish and Stones were not part of the England squad for this month’s Nations League games with Greece and the Republic of Ireland, while De Bruyne has made just four league starts during an injury-hit start to the campaign.

Phil Foden, who withdrew from the England squad due to a knock sustained against Brighton before the break, and Jeremy Doku are also in contention to face Spurs on Saturday evening. Guardiola will also hope to have Ruben Dias available. The Portuguese centre-back has not featured since the Carabao Cup defeat at Spurs on October 30th.
