Ruben Amorim has said Joshua Zirkzee’s increased confidence will be ‘everything’ to the player after the forward scored twice in the 4-0 win over Everton.
Zirkzee has had a difficult time at Manchester United since his £34m arrival from Bologna in the summer. Since marking his Premier League debut with a goal against Fulham in August, Zirkzee had gone 17 games without finding the back of the net.
The Dutch international celebrated his first league start since September with two goals against Everton, as he twice converted from close range to earn Amorim his first Premier League win as manager. Amorim believes the 23-year-old will benefit from a lift in confidence.
“It is everything for the player. He did a great job,” Amorim said to Sky Sports.
“It is good for his confidence. We had an idea, but it is not because I selected him that I had an epiphany, we needed fresh legs. The players are helping a lot, congratulations to them.”
Marcus Rashford also scored twice to continue his improved form around goal. After netting in Amorim’s opening fixture against Ipswich last weekend, Rashford scored a brace to help Manchester United to an emphatic win against Everton at Old Trafford.
“A new coach is always like that, but there is so much to improve. He can do so much better. We all have to improve. But it was a great job from the players.”
