Liverpool have made an offer to Mohamed Salah to extend his contract at Anfield beyond the summer.
Salah’s future has been up in the air with his deal set to expire at the end of the current campaign. The 32-year-old revealed last month that he had not received the proposal of an extension and expressed his disappointment at the lack of talks.
His comments come amid a scintillating start to the season for the Egyptian. He is the joint-leading scorer in the Premier League with 13 goals and has added eight assists in just 14 league performances. The winger’s performances have helped Liverpool to the top of the table with Arne Slot’s side boasting a four-point advantage over Chelsea, with a game in hand.
Salah will be free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign sides next month and Liverpool have now formalised an opening proposal.
It remains to be seen whether the deal is enough to convince Salah to sign new terms, amid interest in the player from leading clubs in Europe and Saudi Arabia. However, he has indicated a desire to remain on Merseyside on the right terms.
Salah is one of three high-profile players out of contract at Liverpool in 2025. The deals of Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold also expire next summer, though all three players have now received renewal proposals.
Salah is he fifth-highest scorer in Liverpool’s history and has netted 226 goals in 370 appearances for Liverpool since arriving from Roma in 2017. He was a crucial part of the success of the Jurgen Klopp era as the Reds won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup (2), UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.
