Cunha set to turn down transfer and sign new Wolves deal

Matheus Cunha is set to turn down a move away from Wolves this month and sign a new deal with the club.

Wolves have agreed terms on new deal for the Brazilian, who has been in outstanding form during the current campaign. Cunha has scored 10 goals and provided four assists in a struggling side, form that has attracted transfer interest from rival clubs.

Arsenal and Manchester United have both been linked with approaches this month but Cunha is set to shun a January transfer in favour of recommitting to an improved contract.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that an agreement has been reached and an announcement on Cunha’s contract is imminent. The news is a major boost to new head coach Vitor Perera, as he looks to keep Wolves in the Premier League.

Cunha has been directly involved in 45% of Wolves’ goals in the Premier League this season, while only Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo has over-performed in terms of xG to a greater extent.

Wolves signed Cunha from Atletico Madrid in a £44m club-record deal in 2023, following an initial loan spell. He has since scored 24 goals in 55 appearances for Wolves across all competitions.
