Erling Haaland has committed the bulk of his career to Manchester City after signing a new nine-and-a-half year deal at the Etihad.
Haaland’s previous deal was due to expire in June 2027 but he has now put pen to paper on an improved long-term deal. The contract has seen previous release clauses removed from the deal and Haaland will be 34-years-old when the deal expires.
Haaland’s new deal ends speculation surrounding his future. Real Madrid and Barcelona have been linked with the striker, who had previously indicated a desire to take on new challenges as his career progressed.
It is a huge statement from both Manchester City and the player, who has broken countless records since his arrival in English football. Haaland has scored 111 goals in 126 appearances across all competitions for the Citizens since arriving from Borussia Dortmund.
His debut season saw Haaland break the Premier League’s single-season goal record, after netting 36 times. He ended the campaign with 52 goals in all competitions, as City won a Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League treble.
Last season, he retained the Premier League’s Golden Boot as City defended the title. He is currently aiming to become just the third player to finish as the Premier League’s top scorer in three straight seasons.
Securing Haaland’s future for the long haul is a huge coup for City, whose rebuild under Pep Guardiola has begun this month. After a disappointing domestic campaign, City are working on deals to sign centre-backs Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis from Lens and Palmeiras, alongside Eintracht Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush.
Guardiola ended speculation over his own future at the Etihad after signing a new two-year deal earlier in the campaign.
