Phil Foden said Manchester City’s 6-0 win at Ipswich Town was ‘probably the best’ performance from the champions this season.
Foden scored twice and created another as Pep Guardiola’s side ran riot at Portman Road. After the disappointment of dropped points at Brentford in midweek, City cruised to a six-goal win against the Tractor Boys.

Foden opened the scoring with a sharp touch and finish from close range, before Mateo Kovacic’s thumper doubled the lead. It was three before half-time when Foden steered in his second, turning in Kevin De Bruyne’s centre.
The electric Jeremy Doku made it four just four minutes after the restart and Erling Haaland got in on the act with a fifth for the visitors before the hour.
With one eye on Wednesday’s crucial clash with PSG, Guardiola withdrew Foden, Haaland and De Bruyne. One of the replacements, James McAtee, wrapped up the win with a header from Kovacic’s cross.
Foden was full of praise for a ruthless display from the Citizens that he ranked as probably the club’s best of the campaign to date.
“Probably the best this season, in terms of all-round play. Keeping possession at important times and we defended well. One of our best performances this year,” he said to Sky Sports.
“We are building momentum, keeping players fit is important. I put it down to people being in better shape and the team is bonding better.
“When we score we are not rushing it. We are keeping possession and build-up play was important today.”
Foden’s double made it three consecutive Premier League games with a goal for the 24-year-old. After a slow start to the season, last season’s PFA Player of the Year has found his form in recent weeks.
“I learned everything from it [poor form],” he added.
“It is good to see me back scoring goals with a smile on my face and enjoying football. I want to keep going and adding to that. You never know what can happen. The aim is to stay in the top four.”
