Liverpool’s remaining Premier League fixtures ahead of defining run

Liverpool head to Aston Villa on Wednesday night aiming to extend their lead in the title race to 10 points.

Arne Slot has guided Liverpool to the top of the table with a third of the season remaining. The Reds can increase the pressure on nearest challengers Arsenal with a win at Villa Park, in the start of what could be a defining run for Slot’s side.

“When you get the fixture list I think Villa away you look at as one of the tougher ones you can face. Last season was also a very interesting game, with it ending 3-3 if I remember correctly,” Slot said at his pre-match press conference.

“[They have] a very good manager [Unai Emery] who always has a very good game plan. He has brought in quite a lot of good players in the winter break, and they already had a very good team. They qualified for top eight in the Champions League, so it tells you it is a strong team we are going to face.

“Every game in this period of time for every team in the league is difficult.”

After visiting Aston Villa, Liverpool take on Manchester City at the Etihad this weekend. That clash with the defending Premier League champions precedes the visit of Newcastle to Anfield on February 26th. With three top-four contenders in consecutive games, February could shape Liverpool’s season ahead of the run-in.

The Reds will want to ensure their advantage remains in tact ahead of facing Arsenal in the closing stages of the campaign. Mikel Arteta’s team are the opposition at Anfield on May 10th in a potentially decisive game.
