Alex Ferguson backs ‘brave’ plan for new Man United stadium

Former Man United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has lent his support to the club’s plans to replace Old Trafford with a brand new stadium in Manchester.

The club unveiled its plan to demolish the iconic ground and build a 100,000-capacity stadium next to it on Tuesday morning.

The ambitious plan is part of a wider regeneration project that Man United claim will bring an additional £7.3bn into the UK economy and create thousands of new jobs.

Old Trafford has been United’s home ground for 115 years and played host to some of the greatest moments in the club’s history. But Ferguson says the club “must be brave” in taking the leap to a new home.
