Chelsea reach £42m agreement over first summer signing

Chelsea have reached an agreement with Sporting Lisbon to sign teenage winger Geovany Quenda.

The West Londoners have agreed a deal worth around 50 million euros for the 17-year-old, who will remain with the Portuguese champions on loan next season. He will link up with Chelsea in July 2026.

Chelsea have beaten competition from Manchester United to land the youngster, with the Red Devils having been keen on a deal in January. Ruben Amorim had targeted the signing of the teenager from his former side but has now seen Chelsea close a deal.

According to The Athletic, Quenda will sign a seven-year contract with the Blues, with the option for a further 12 months.

His arrival continues Chelsea’s pursuit of the best up-and-coming talents in world football. Quenda is not the first highly-coveted talent snapped up with an eye on the future, with South American starlets Estêvão Willian and Kendry Paez set to join up with Chelsea next season.

Quenda became the youngest goalscorer in Sporting’s history when netting on his debut against Porto in the Portuguese Super Cup in August.

Comfortable at wing-back or further forward on the flank, he has made 43 first-team appearances for Sporting this season, scoring twice and providing five assists. Thought left-footed, he has featured on both flanks and has caught the eye with his explosive acceleration.
