Maresca confirms Chelsea goalkeeper decision ahead of Arsenal clash

Enzo Maresca has confirmed that Robert Sanchez will start in goal for Chelsea against Arsenal this weekend.

Sanchez returned to the Chelsea side for the 1-0 win over Leicester last week, having been dropped following an erratic run of form.

The Spaniard has made five errors directly leading to goals this season, the joint-most of any Premier League player alongside Ipswich goalkeeper Arijanet Muric.

However, Filip Jorgensen’s failure to take his chance has prompted Maresca to bring Sanchez back into the side.

Speaking on Thursday, Maresca confirmed that Sanchez will start the club’s crucial clash with London rivals Arsenal on Sunday.

“It will be Robert playing against Arsenal,” the Chelsea head coach told reporters.

“Since we started, the idea was not to change goalkeepers, but sometimes you have to modify, you have to be flexible in your ideas.

“We do this in the game plan, with the way we want to attack, the way want to defend, but also we need to be flexible on players. I thought Robert needed some days off, to rest with his head, mentally. Now he is back and hopefully we are not going to change until the end. I said many times, we are quite happy with both goalkeepers.”
