Chelsea ‘to block’ Real Madrid move for Kai Havertz

Chelsea will block any attempt from Real Madrid to sign Kai Havertz this summer with the forward a reported transfer target for the Spanish side.

Havertz is on the radar of Real Madrid as the club consider attacking additions this summer, with the future of Karim Benzema uncertain and Marco Asensio set to sign for Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.

The Germany international has been linked with an exit from Chelsea after an underwhelming period in west London, with the 23-year-old having scored just seven league goals last season.

Havertz has struggled to produce consistent performances since his £72m arrival from Bayer Leverkusen, but the Metro are reporting that Chelsea will reject any approaches for the forward this summer with Mauricio Pochettino keen to retain his services.

Pochettino is understood to view Havertz as ‘essential’ and will ‘block’ any offers, despite Chelsea’s need for sales this summer to reduce a bloated squad and meet Financial Fair Play regulations.

Real Madrid have also been linked with signing Harry Kane from Tottenham, while Roberto Firmino has been named as a potential option with the forward to leave Liverpool on a free transfer this summer.
